Michael McCormack for Riverina

Michael McCormack is relishing the challenge that awaits as the August 21 Federal election looms.

He has been busy campaigning right across the Riverina, from Tumut and Gundagai across to the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area in what is the large and diverse Federal electorate of Riverina.

“Throughout the Riverina people have different wants and needs but there is a common theme and that is the desire to have first-rate health care services,” Mr McCormack said.

“We need a new Wagga Wagga Base Hospital to provide for the entire region and it is imperative that no local hospital will close. Health is also about doctors, nurses, allied health, mental health and aged care services being resourced.”

Education, water and food security and costs of everyday living are other recurring concerns expressed to Mr McCormack as he has travelled around the Riverina.

Michael McCormack, aged 45, has lived in the Riverina all of his life. He lived on the family farm until he was 22 and worked at The Daily Advertiser newspaper for 21 years, the last 11 as Editor, before starting his own publishing business in 2002.

He joined The Nationals in 2003 because it was the only party solely focused on rural and regional Australians and is hoping to be able to continue the hard work of retiring Member for Riverina, Kay Hull.

He has been married to Catherine for 24 years and they have three children: Georgina, 19 (who is in her second year of a secondary teaching degree at Charles Sturt University) and sons Alexander, 15, and Nicholas, 12, who attend high school in Wagga.

“My motto has long been ‘I promise not to be silent when I ought to speak' and I will continue to speak up for local people and local issues,” Mr McCormack said.
