Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is the most common form of muscular dystrophy affecting 1 in 3,500 live born males in all races. It is caused by a mutation of a gene on the X chromosome, which provides the instruction for the production of the protein Dystrophin. This protein is located inside the muscle cell membrane. When it is absent the muscle cells collapse and die and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy develops.

Approximately 47 people attended with a presentation being made to the three retired Councillor's, Dallas Tout, Michael Kingwill and Des Manton, all who had some tips for their new "young" replacements. The night was enjoyed by all.

Cr. Maslin Visits Beckom Public School.
Cr Bill Maslin today visited Beckom Public School to brief students standing for the SRC, on how to run a successful election campaign. Cr Maslin provided examples of posters, flyers and advertising material which was used in his election campaign for the September 2008 Local Government Elections.
Cr Maslin was also quizzed by students on aspects of the Gundagai Shire Council such as Parks and Gardens, Recycling, Swimming Pools and the Library. This was a great opportunity for the students to gain an understanding as to how every Shire is different.
Earlier in the year the Students spoke with Ms Armstrong, the Finance Manager for the Coolamon Shire Council. Cr Maslin got the impression that this is why the questions about the Gundagai Shire were very clever and sometimes difficult for the new Councillor to answer!
