2 October 2009
Good Morning Everyone,
What an interesting week it has been. On Sunday I did the Gundagai History Tour and must say the countryside is looking good, even after all of that terrible wind. Fingers crossed for more rain though!
On Monday I was elected as the new President of Gundagai Historic Bridges Inc. If you have any ideas or opinions, I gladly welcome.
Wednesday afternoon saw the Sheridan Street off-ramp open. There have been a few signage issues, but Mr Magnone has contacted the RTA and had that sorted out. A big thank you to Doris from the Independent , Paul from the Daily Advertiser and Melinda from Prime for the coverage.
I have no news to report on the Gundagai Brochure, only that it is expected to be presented to the next Gundagai Business Houses Group meeting. Possibly Liz Kelleher could give everyone an update?
Discussions are underway with a number of people and organisations regarding the 2010 Italian Connection Trophy. The Rally will be stopping in Gundagai on the 21st May 2010 . I am in the process of trying to sure up the requirements to guarantee the stopover. They spent approximately $8,000 overnight in 2009, which is terrific for that short period of time.
Development Committee will be conducting site visits on Tuesday regarding the Dump Point as previously mentioned in the Independent . Any letters or emails of support or opposition are welcomed. If I could have these prior to the Council meeting on Tuesday 13th October 2009 please.
The Governor of New South Wales has given assent to the Local Government Amendment (Planning and Reporting) Act 2009 yesterday. Surprisingly, this is a great piece of legislation delivered by the NSW Labor Government which amends the Local Government Act 1993 .
The amendments will make additions to Council's Charter, greater community influence on what Council does and puts a greater responsibility on a Councillor with regards to the strategic planning of Council. The ‘Management Plan' is out the window to be replaced with a minimal 10 year community strategic plan. There is a resourcing strategy and delivery program as part of the greater plan.
All in all, at this point in time, I strongly believe that this is reform to Local Government that is long overdue.
The Gundagai Branch of CanAssist needs your help. Do you have some spare time here and there to lend your support to a very important group in our community? For more information give Betty Heydon a call on 6944 1952 .
Have a nice weekend!
Regards,
William.
